War and Terror: Is The UN Setting Up Iraq For a Bloodbath By American Forces? Posted on Tuesday, March 04 @ 01:38:37 UTC
Topic: United Nations

by Ben Roberts
In Persian Gulf War l, daddy Bush had the United Nations demand that Iraq end
it's invasion of Kuwait, lay down their weapons, and leave. They did, and were
promptly attacked and slaughtered on what was called the Highway of Death, by
US forces. In case you don't recall, there were vehicles and bodies littering that
major transportation highway out of Kuwait. Dogs were seen scavenging bodies
many days after. Daddy Bush came out smiling and enthusiastic announcing,
'Finally we've got the monkey of Vietnam off our back?' General Swarzhkoff was
rosy cheeked and just as elated as he described pinpoint bombing and surgical
strikes. One is left wondering how many Iraqis died, and how many children
became orphans. When asked about this, Swarzkoff's smile promptly vanished
as he told America and the world, 'We'll never know.' Really. The bodies on that
highway, the cars blasted by American F-16 fighter jets while fleeing Iraq on the
road to Aqaba in Jordan, and the destruction of the Rashid Hotel in Baghdad
crammed with Iraqi civilians, tell a different gruesome story. Now we face the
prospect of Gulf War ll, and it seems that the UN is once again unwittingly or
deliberately setting up Iraqis for a bloodbath by US forces. Here's what I mean:
The United Nations inspectors went to Iraq to investigate Iraq's possession of
weapons of mass destruction. One imagine's these would be nuclear, chemical,
of biological weapons. Top nuclear investigator ElBaradei concluded that Iraq
has no nuclear weapons. Bans Blix found about a dozen empty missile shell
casings that had no chemical or biological payload but were capable of carrying
such, or had some residue of some kind. He also found the Iraqi Al Samoud ll
missile to be in violation of its UN requirement by surpassing its 93 mile range by
a few miles. If this is incriminating evidence then we, in America, should all be
locked up with no chance of parole for the gross violation of taking 13 items in a
12 item line in our local grocery store. UNMOVIC should have conducted their
investigation, decided whether Iraq does or does not have weapons of mass
destruction, and left Iraq. The longer they stay the more dangerous they are
making it for Iraq and its people. The United Nations should be respected as an
organization charged with peace, harmonization, and nation building in the world.
However, at times their decisions have resulted in fostering exactly the opposite.
The situation between the Israelis and Palestinians is one such glaring example.
Right now the Iraqis are complying with Hans Blix demand that they destroy the
Al Samoud ll missile. This weapon is an important part of the Iraqi defense. They
have about two hundred of these missiles, and have destroyed about ten so far.
This demand by Blix and the UN is absolutely wrong for more than one reason,
and he could be inadvertently facilitating a bloodbath upon Iraqis at the hands of
American forces. General Ameer Al Saadi, the Iraqi military expert, protested the
missile destruction on the grounds that it was tested without its warhead or
guidance system, making it lighter, and able to go a bit further. He is absolutely
right. Instead of conducting a live test with this full equipment on board, Blix had
some 'experts' make a ruling. How unscientific, unreliable, and questionable.
The surest way to confirm the claims of the Iraqis would be to test fire the missile
with all its hardware. This would be so easy to do, firing the missile in the Iraqi
desert. So on that count the UN is wrong. Next, the Iraqis are destroying this
major defensive deterrent while America has an overwhelming force with the
latest in military technology just outside their borders, with its Commander in
Chief daily warning of an imminent attack, and while Americans have recently
begun attacking a potpourri of Iraqi targets.
It would be an international outrage,
and nothing short of savagery if America were to attack Iraq now that they are
complying with UN demands and destroying their main defensive weapon with
which to protect themselves. An attack now would be the equivalent of a fragile
boy in the schoolyard being attacked by a bigger much stronger muscular boy,
while the teacher overseeing playground recess holds the small boy's hands
behind him as he is beaten to a bloody pulp. It would be a bloodbath. The blood
would be on the hands of the United Nations. This is an intensely dangerous
situation for Iraq. Blix should promptly rescind this insane demand that Iraq
continue to destroy its Al Samoud ll, unless he can guarantee them that his
organization will strongly oppose and deter any attack by the United States.
The Turkish parliament voted against allowing American forces access to its
territory for a push from the North into Iraq in the event of war. But how much of
us are aware that Turkish troops are in northern Iraq, and have been there since
the end of Gulf War l. Also, The Washington Post did a story this weekend about
Kurds and Americans jointly refurbishing two former Iraqi bases in northern Iraq
to facilitate attack on the Iraqis. This is unbelievable! The UN knows that a
significant contingent of Turkish forces are illegally occupying Iraq. How can they
allow this?
The no fly zone was set up by the Americans and British supposedly
to protect Kurds in the North and Shiites in the South. It is not mandated by the
United Nations, but is instead a unilateral undertaking of America and Britain.
Incidentally, it is also in the two main regions of Iraq's bountiful oil supplies. The
question is this. How can the UN allow an operation not mandated by them, but
promoted as affording protection for the Kurds, to be transformed into an
offensive undertaking, where Americans and Kurds are in northern Iraq
preparing an Iraqi base with the intent of attacking Iraq? This is dangerous,
insane and totally illegal. With such behavior, is it my imagination that the United
Nations is facilitating the bloodshed and destruction of Iraq and its people?
