War and Terror: Extremists Must Go!

I have sat back and watched this conflict unfold over the past year. Though it has been ensuing since the late 80s (at least the most recent conflict), my attention has just recently been drawn to this fray.

How long can we sit idle and watch as the death toll rises? Will the world just sit back and let extremists on both sides slaughter innocents who get in the way? Truly, these are dark times. We live in a world that is wracked by violence, spawned by ancient hatreds, which do not die. They just grow new tails.

With each bombing, with each citizen mowed down by machine gun fire, the vile stench of bitterness disperses its deadly pathogen upon the masses. Blackening the hearts of men and women who see their families huddling in fear, dreading whatever terror may come next.

There is no clear enemy here, no NAZI regime to blame for all of the world's evils (Though some would claim Iraq is such a regime). We don't need scapegoats; we need to change our worldviews.

There are extremists on both sides of the conflict. Firstly, we have the Islamic militants who believe they are waging a holy war to liberate the Arab peoples from the oppression of American foreign policy and Israeli occupation of Palestine. Then we have the Zionists who see the Arabs as a violent mob of anti-semetic barbarians bent on destroying everything Jewish.

The Israeli military has killed more than 3 times the number of Palestinians than all of the suicide attacks put together. The Zionists arrogantly look down their noses at the Palestinians as dogs, some lesser breed because of their lineage. They seem to think that anyone who does not agree with Israel must be anti-semetic and deserve to be punished with violence.

Sadly, these Zionists are becoming what they so much despised of the Nazis. (A regime believing they are the supreme race, and all who do not agree with their policy are enemies and must be dealt with swiftly and harshly.)

The Palestinian extremists on the other hand, take up arms to slaughter innocent Israelis believing they are fighting an evil oppressor. They misquote their holy book to deceive troubled youth into killing themselves and others with them. These ruthless killers do as much harm to their own people as they do to the "oppressors" they desperately wish to usurp.

Neither side is justified due to the fact that the root of the problem is not oppression or even just control of land; it is rooted more in hatred than anything. If you do a little research on Judaism and Islam, you will find that both religions hold many of the same sites as sacred. (Can't they mutually respect and protect these sites?) Both religions teach a similar moral code, and monotheistic devotion.

Why can't both groups accept each other's differences and come to a common understanding? Both Jews and Muslims believe strongly in moral and family values, both believe strongly in education. Both believe in doing good for their fellow man, therefore both could get along. The problem is not with the average person; it is the extremists who need to be dealt with.

The governments must both come to an agreement; keep religion out of politics. Racist policies must be removed from both sides. What we need are some levelheaded leaders from both sides who really desire peace, to sit down and form a council of both Palestinians and Israelis. Screw nationalistic and racial pride, those are the things that keep this conflict going. It is time to set aside your differences and cooperate in order to bring about a governing body in the region that will work for tolerance and peace.

Children, stop fighting! Brothers tend to fight all the time when they are kids, but when they grow up they more often then not can settle disputes like adults. It is time to start working together if you want to see an end to the suffering of both your peoples. Grow up!!!!
