War and Terror: Cheney Orders Corporate Media to Sell Iran Attack

Buried in the New Yorker and yet uncovered by Paul Joseph Watson is an item by George Packer about “instructions” handed-down from on-high by Cheney’s office—call it Neocon Central—to sell the attack of Iran to the American people. Packer quotes Barnett Rubin, described as having “connections to someone at a neoconservative institution in Washington,” and this institution, likely the American Enterprise Institute, where Bush gets his criminal “minds,” has instructed the complaisant corporate media to sell the attack.

“They [the source’s institution] have ‘instructions’ (yes, that was the word used) from the Office of the Vice-President to roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day,” Packer quotes Rubin, “it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don’t think they’ll ever get majority support for this—they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is ‘plenty.’”

Needless to say, the sales job will be easy, as around 20 percent of the public consists of neocon sock puppets and another 15 to 20 percent—plugged into the electronic corporate Borg hive—will be swayed effortlessly enough, as millions were swayed by lies and cheap tricks in the lead-up to the mass murder campaign directed against Iraq.

Mr. Packer, however, seems a bit clueless:
It’s one thing for the American Enterprise Institute, the Weekly Standard, et al to champion a war they support. It’s another to jump like circus animals at the crack of the White House whip. If the propaganda campaign predicted by Rubin’s friend is launched, less subservient news organizations should ask certain questions, and keep asking them: Does the Administration expect the Iranian regime to fall in the event of an attack? If yes, what will replace it? If no (and it will not), why would the Administration deliberately set about to strengthen the regime’s hold on power? What will the Administration do to protect highly vulnerable American lives and interests in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world against the Iranian reprisals that will follow? What if Iran strikes against Israel? What will be the strategy when the Iranian nuclear program, damaged but not destroyed, resumes? How will the Administration handle the international alarm and opprobrium that would be an attack’s inevitable fallout?
George Packer has it backwards—the whip is cracked over the head of the White House by the neocons at AIE, not the other way around. For some reason no shortage of corporate media journalists are unable to digest the obvious fact that the neocons own the White House and occupy much real estate at the Pentagon.
In the realm of corporate Borg hive media, there is no creature as a “less subservient news organization.” Indeed, subservience and a handmaiden role in service to the ruling elite define corporate news.
It should be obvious by now the neocons are not influenced by “international alarm and opprobrium,” in fact it can be reasonably stated they get their jollies on such.

Unfortunately, Mr. Packer buys into the previously and more or less effortlessly sold neocon illusion that an attack against Iran will be designed to get rid of its fantastical nuclear weapons program. In fact, the objective is to kill thousands of Iranian grandmothers and toddlers—as the Muslim and Arab-hating neocons are basically serial killers—and violently pitch the nation back into the Mesolithic. Tragically, corporate journalists are unable to realize this simple enough fact—or if they do realize it, they are not saying for fear of losing their condos and beamers.
