Bad Laws to deal with
human/pitbull problem

The leaders of this country have placed the people into another serious moral crisis. They have passed another bad law in their attempt to deal with some irresponsible Pitbull owners. This law punishes responsible dog owners with hefty fines if they do not spade their dogs, have them registered, and take out insurance policies on them. Owners who cannot afford the expenses are turning their dogs loose on the streets. Some are killing their dogs. The law is really punishing all dogs.

This is absolute madness. This government is prepared to make criminals out of law-abiding citizens only because they are incapable of finding creative ways to address a situation. This is equivalent to using a hammer to kill a fly.

On television last night one family contacted this man to take their family pet Pitbull to the vet to be kill. The parents were at pains to explain to their children why the dog will have to be killed, a dog that have been the children's pet for years.

How do they tell the children that their dog has to be killed because some other people were irresponsible? The children kept saying that our dog never did anything wrong. The family fed the dog with their hands then was struggling to say their goodbyes when the man said that he just could not do it. This is a man who publicly said that in his humanitarian gesture, he would take these dogs from all who wanted to get rid of them and take them to the vet and pay for them to be killed rather than leave them to roam the streets unfed.

How irresponsible it is for this government to put people in this position only because they are unwilling to allow for a more informed public.

What are the choices? Pay a hefty insurance fee and have your females spaded or pay a heavy fine. Or kill your dog because you cannot afford an expense that you never catered for. Some choices, you are dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

This problem could have been simply addressed if they were willing to listen. I explained repeatedly on the radio that they could properly equip the TSPCA and allow them to oversee the registration of all dogs. They could have made them responsible for checking to see that dog owners have adequate facilities for the type of dogs they kept. If they found dogs straying this agency could be responsible for picking them up and charging the registered owners. People could have reported to them all forms of animal abuses and they should be equipped to deal with that. I could go on and on but who is listening.

Are they going to apply these same types of laws to other situations? People have been saying for years that alcohol and tobacco are taking many lives, why do they not impose these punitive laws. No, not at all, a certain type of people whom they depend on to finance their election campaign controls these businesses. Ordinary law abiding people bread and sell dogs from their homes, it is they who do not have firearm licenses. Poor owners are at most risk because of the escalating crime in the country. They will not be able to afford these fees. These politicians do not think anything of trampling on the same people they expect to vote for them.

That is the price of ignorance.

I will speak some more on the radio, and if the people allow the government to pass bad laws then it is they who will have to suffer the effects.
