  • Hunger strike at National University becomes serious

    Today in El Tiempo there is a report on an ongoing hunger strike by employees and one student at the national university in Tegucigalpa (UNAH). Four of the eleven employees on hunger strike were reportedly treated for medical problems on Thursday including cramps, faintness, strong headaches, and loss of vision.

  • Lobo retreats bitterly

    President Porfirio Lobo of Honduras will not attend an EU-Latin America summit later this month, to avoid a boycott by South American leaders. Several presidents had threatened to shun the meeting in Madrid if Mr Lobo attended. They consider his government illegitimate because of the way his predecessor, Manuel Zelaya, was ousted. Mr Lobo will still travel to Spain for a parallel meeting between the EU and Central America.

  • Honduran president not liked by all his neighbours

    The Honduran president has stepped down from the Latam/EU Summit in Spain later this month. Porfirio Lobo has said he will not attend the LAC-EU summit due to perceived arrogance from some South American leaders."
