Honduras Coup - Day 255 - March 09, 2010

  • Haiti: A Truly Astounding Gift
    By Sam Isaac Edwards - huffingtonpost.com : March 09, 2010
In the western hemisphere there exists but one small populational subset that is equally as poor and equally as needy as those who now inhabit Port au Prince. It is the half million or so Hondurans who live on the Moskita Coast, a geographically isolated region of the Honduran jungle along the border with Nicarauga.

Nine members of Congress have written to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asking her to press the Honduran government to stop violent repression against supporters of overthrown president Manuel Zelaya. The letter was signed by Reps. It calls for Clinton to "fully investigate reports of severe rights abuses in Honduras," and to pressure the administration of President Porfirio "Pepe" Lobo into putting a stop to these abuses.

  • Honduran politics
    By weeksnotice.blogspot.com : March 09, 2010
Porfirio Lobo is mad that Mel Zelaya says bad things about Honduran politics. I guess his complaint would go something like this: Our military overthrew a democratically elected government, then the police killed a bunch of people, a coup government then did its best to bankrupt the country, the Congress faked a resignation letter, everybody lied about being willing to negotiate, the Supreme Court allowed violations of the constitution, and we all made a mockery of both horizontal and vertical accountability to make sure everyone stays poor. So why would Zelaya say bad things about us? As Robert Micheletti said last year, we're all just happy people!
